Entrepreneurs who start showing up in AI search now will have a massive advantage later.

Just this week, in a Brainz Skool group I’m part of, we had a lively discussion about “Why AI-SEO Will Soon Be the Most Talked-About Optimization, started by Caroline Winkvist (Publisher of Brainz).” Some folks were genuinely surprised, others nodded along, saying they know they need to step up their AI-SEO game or risk getting left behind.

We swapped notes on the AI platforms we’re using and why, and one member said something that really stuck with me: “The way we show up in digital spaces is evolving, and it’s no longer enough to simply be searchable on Google.”

That got me thinking… there’s still a lot of confusion around AI and SEO, even among smart, savvy business owners. So, I went down the research rabbit hole. And what I found? Well, that’s exactly what I’m sharing with you in this article.

Welcome to the Age of AI-First Search

For nearly two decades, SEO has been synonymous with ranking on Google. Marketers obsessed over keywords, backlinks, and meta tags. But we’re standing on the edge of a massive shift: the rise of AI-driven search.

AI is no longer just powering recommendation engines or voice assistants — it’s fundamentally reshaping how people discover, evaluate, and act on information. Platforms like ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, and Anthropic’s Claude aren’t simply providing links; they’re providing answers.

Here’s the catch: AI doesn’t pull from the entire internet. It pulls from trusted, authoritative, and recognizable sources. That means if your content isn’t optimized for AI discovery, you risk becoming invisible — even if your Google rankings are solid.

This is where AI-SEO comes in, and it’s positioned to become the dominant force in optimization. The question is: will you be ready to capitalize on it?

What Is AI-SEO?

AI-SEO is the process of optimizing your online presence not just for traditional search engines like Google, but also for AI-powered discovery systems.

Think of it this way:

  • Traditional SEO = “How do I rank on Google’s search results?”
  • AI-SEO = “How do I ensure AI assistants recommend and cite me as a trusted source?”

AI models prioritize:

  • Authority & credibility (who’s saying it, not just what they’re saying)
  • Clear, human-like explanations (not keyword-stuffed jargon)
  • Niche expertise (recognizable voices consistently tied to specific subjects)

In other words, it’s not just about being searchable, it’s about being chosen by AI.

Why AI-SEO Is Set to Dominate

  1. AI Search Is Exploding
By 2027, Gartner predicts that 20% of all search queries will be AI-driven assistants, not browsers. Already, millions of people ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Gemini before turning to Google.
  2. AI Favors Authority Over Popularity
Traditional SEO sometimes rewards the best-optimized site, even if it’s not the most trustworthy. AI flips that. If your name or brand is cited across authoritative sources, AI is far more likely to use you as a reference.
  3. The Content Game Is Changing
AI thrives on helpful, conversational content that mirrors the way humans speak. This means fluff-heavy keyword blogs won’t cut it anymore. Instead, AI-ready content sounds like a great conversation with a subject matter expert.
  4. Search Behavior Is Evolving
People no longer want 10 links. They want 1 good answer. AI delivers just that — meaning being the source behind that one answer is worth far more than being link #7 on a Google page

How to Capitalize on AI-SEO Today

Here’s the good news: the playbook is still being written. If you start now, you can position yourself ahead of the curve.

1. Build Your Digital Authority

AI trusts what humans already trust. That means you need to show up across high-credibility platforms.

  • Write guest articles for industry magazines and portals.
  • Get quoted in the media using services like HARO (Help a Reporter Out) or Qwoted.
  • Contribute thought pieces to digital publications (like Brainz, Thrive Global, Medium, etc.).

Pro Tip: The more your name appears in different credible places, the more AI begins associating you with that expertise.

2. Embrace Conversational Content

AI prefers content that “sounds human.”

  • Write like you’re explaining a concept over coffee.
  • Use questions and answers in your blog posts, AI loves structured dialogue.
  • Avoid keyword-stuffing and robotic phrasing.

Example: Instead of “Best SEO tools 2025,” try:

“What tools should you use to optimize for AI search in 2025? Let’s break it down…”

That’s the kind of phrasing AI systems love to pull from.

3. Focus on Niche Expertise

Generalists get lost. Specialists get cited.

If you want to be found by AI, double down on your niche.

  • Consistently publish content around a specific area of expertise.
  • Use case studies and personal stories that make your content unique (AI craves original, real-life examples over generic summaries).

Case in point: Dr. Andrew Huberman (Huberman Lab podcast) has become the go-to neuroscience voice online. His consistent, niche expertise means AI often references him in wellness-related queries.

4. Structure Your Content for AI

AI thrives on structured data and clarity.

  • Use headings, subheadings, and bullet points.
  • Add FAQs to every article.
  • Include summaries and key takeaways at the end.

This not only makes your content AI-friendly but also improves human readability.

5. Leverage AI-SEO Tools

You don’t need to guess, tools are already emerging to help.

  • SurferSEO: Optimizes for readability and topic authority.
  • NeuronWriter: Helps you create content in a conversational, AI-friendly way.
  • Frase: Analyzes questions users ask and helps you structure answers AI can easily pull from.
  • MarketMuse: Assesses topical authority so you know where to focus.

Pair these with traditional SEO tools like Ahrefs, SEMrush, or Moz, and you’ll cover both Google and AI.

6. Publish Across Multiple Mediums

AI doesn’t just read blogs. It pulls from:

  • Podcasts (via transcripts)
  • YouTube videos (via captions)
  • Social platforms (LinkedIn articles, Twitter/X threads)

The more formats you use, the wider your AI footprint.

Pro Tip: Always transcribe your podcasts/videos. AI can’t “hear” audio but it can “read” transcripts.

7. Monitor Your AI Mentions

Yes, AI mentions can be tracked!

  • Tools like Perplexity AI and ChatGPT plugins allow you to see what sources they reference.
  • Set up Google Alerts for your name, brand, or niche keywords to monitor mentions across the web.

This helps you measure if your AI-SEO efforts are working.

Real-Life Examples of AI-SEO in Action

  1. Neil Patel (Digital Marketing)
His content isn’t just everywhere, it’s structured, conversational, and consistently cited. AI tools frequently pull Patel’s blog for digital marketing queries.
  2. Huberman Lab (Wellness & Neuroscience)
By consistently producing clear, science-backed, conversational content, Andrew Huberman has become the “AI-cited” expert in health.
  3. Harvard Business Review (Leadership & Business)
Because HBR is a trusted source, AI assistants regularly recommend its insights in leadership, productivity, and workplace culture queries.

Takeaway: You don’t need to be Harvard to be cited but you do need to act like a trusted source in your niche.

Next Steps: How to Get Started with AI-SEO

  1. Audit Your Content
Which pieces position you as an authority? Which need updating for clarity and conversational tone?
  2. Choose Your Niche Focus
Decide what you want AI to recognize you for and stick to it.
  3. Update and Repurpose Content
Turn blogs into FAQs, podcasts into transcripts, and videos into articles.
  4. Build Digital Footprints
Pitch guest posts, get interviewed, and appear across platforms.
  5. Experiment with AI-SEO Tools
Try at least one tool like Frase or SurferSEO to see how your content stacks up.

Just the Beginning: Don’t Let AI Pass You By

The way people search is changing …fast. If Google SEO was the first wave of discovery, AI-SEO is the tsunami.

The real opportunity lies in positioning yourself not just as someone who can be “found,” but as someone who is cited, trusted, and recommended.

AI-SEO isn’t about gaming an algorithm. It’s about earning authority, showing up consistently, and creating content that sounds more human than machine.

So here’s the playful challenge: when AI assistants are dishing out answers two years from now, do you want your competitors’ names showing up, or yours?

Time to feed the robots the kind of content they can’t resist.

After my research, I asked AI the following (prompt): After reviewing the information you shared about AI SEO, I was wondering what my chances are in showing up on AI SEO? And what do I need to do to increase my chances of being seen in search results?

I recommend you do the same. You might be surprised by the response. At the very least you will get an outline of the steps you need to get the results you want.

I am going to share that information in the next post! Stay Tuned.

AI DISCLAIMERS: Portions of the research and examples in this article were gathered with the assistance of AI tools, including ChatGPT and other AI-powered search platforms.
